Volunteer Application
We need YOU! We have many ways to volunteer. Click here to find out about the different roles and our application.
Will you connect with ONE isolated family in Maine?
Our volunteers partner with families by providing relationships and support to isolated parents and their children. We have a team approach to volunteering so that no one feels alone or overwhelmed. Teams provide a “Circle of Support” for families.
Questions? Attend an info session.
Here are the steps to becoming a volunteer. We rigorously screen potential volunteers to ensure the safety of parents and children, but don’t worry, we will walk you through the process! Application Process in detail here.
Step 1: Fill out an online application and provide 3 references: https://sfcms.net/apply/. Select “Maine” as the Safe Families for Children Chapter in the drop down menu.
*Once we receive your application a staff member will get back to you, as soon as they are able.
Step 2: Complete background screenings: Maine Child Abuse Registry Check and Idetogo Fingerprinting.
Step 3: Attend an in person training event or watch the online volunteer training here.
Step 4: Schedule a volunteer assessment with Safe Families staff by emailing maine@safefamilies.net .
Once approved, you will begin to receive requests. However, much like a volunteer fire department-you never know when, how often or what the request may be.
For any questions on the approval process, please contact our Volunteer Engagement Coordinator at maine@safefamilies.net
VOLUNTEER NEEDS BELOW:
**Host Families!
Our desire is to never turn a Family in need away because of a lack of Host Families. It takes about 4 weeks to complete paperwork with fingerprints so get the process started now.
**Family Coaches!
Family Coaches make sure our churches are effective in supporting our struggling parents and Host Families and act as a peacekeeper between the two parties. We are always looking to add to our team of compassionate individuals who are willing and able to walk with people through various types of situations.
Don’t have time or ability to Host or Coach? Check out our “Help Our Chapter” for a role that interests you.
Please contact us at 207-713-0523 or maine@safefamilies.net with any questions. Thank you!
